Postby Ivo » Tue Sep 01, 2009 12:38 am

A while back I saw a few black and white photographs of crossbows supposedly used by US Special Forces during the Vietnam War.

...Fact or Fiction? :?

Edit: Found more Instances of Crossbow use in Global conflicts.

Fact, but not used by the Americans per se.

The crossbow WAS a preferred weapon of the Montanyards <SP>, and from what little I remember, they were our occaisional allies

In WWII the British SOE (Special Operations Executive) had an array of expieremental weapons. one of which was a crossbow. The crossbow didnt use the force of the bend of the bow to push the bolt, but used rubber bands wrapped around the fireing mechanism. i'll post some pics later if i remember. or you could look for yourself in the section all about SOE agents in the book, Warrior, a visual history of the fighting man by R.G. Grant. Thats where i found it. :D
